Wicked Weekend in Singapore: Part 2

Hi everyone. Here comes part 2 of my weekend trip to Singapore last month (if you haven't read part 1 you can see it here). I went to DB Bistro Moderne for dinner before going to watch the Wicked musical at Marina Bay Sands and I had such a good meal that deserved its own blog post.

I have to apologize for the subpar photo quality because I didn't bring my camera so I was using my phone's camera and the lighting was quite dim but I didn't use flash.
Table setting at DB

The musical was at 7.30pm so we were at the restaurant very early, which is better because I can snap this photo to show you the restaurant's decor without disturbing other people.

Wicked Weekend in Singapore: Part 1

Hi everyone. The title of this post is in fact very literal because this post is all about my weekend trip to Singapore with my siblings and sister-in-law in mid April to watch the Wicked musical. Since I mainly spent my time there shopping and eating, be warned that this is a very photo heavy and food-photo filled post.

We went to this Japanese restaurant called Tampopo for lunch after we arrived because my brother highly recommended this place. He said that this place serves delicious ramen, even more delicious Tonkatsu (breaded deep fried pork cutlet) and yummy Japanese desserts. Who can resist such a restaurant? Not me.

My makeup for the day.

My favourite drink, green tea!!

Delicious reminiscence

I miss Melbourne. I miss the people, the erratic weather, the streets lingering with so much culture and personality, my old apartment, the freedom, the life I once had, the food...

I REALLY DO MISS THE FOOD.

I am lucky to be living in Malaysia now, and we do have lots of delicious cuisines from different countries and culture. But for one, our Cafes here do not even come close to the ones in Melbourne, period.

This was definitely one of my favourite Cafes in Melbourne, and I always thought the name to be really cute. THREE BAGS FULL, isn't it such a cute name?

I actually didn't even need to look at the menu because I always order the same thing every time I go.

Proud Mary Brunch

Hi dearies!! Sorry I haven't posted anything in so long. I am currently in the process of moving (countries) and the amount of work that cleaning and packing requires have sucked up every little bit of my time to the point that I don't even get to sleep.

But I took a break from the tedious chores one lovely afternoon and went out to have brunch with a few of my girl friends (I am certainly not a morning person at all and thus more often than not I only have one meal a day at dinner time). But I would set my alarm and wake up early for the amazing coffee and delicious food in lovely little cafes like this one anytime.

I brought a little friend with me~~
"What should I order??"

Sangria and Tapas ♥

Tuesday nights have somewhat become my movie night of choice. Firstly, it's cheapo tickets day at Hoyts cinema (well, I suppose it's really not a massive saving but it still makes me feel good: which is what really matters anyways). Secondly, I just think that it is a mid-week indulgence away from my typical drunk/hungover weekend. Plus there usually isn't anything going on on tuesdays so watching a movie is a chillax-something-to-do for me.

The movie of the day was Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D. To be honest this is my second time watching it. I like it but it is definitely not one of those ever-so-bloody-awesome-i-have-to-see-it-again-asap movies. The only reason that I want to see it again was because I liked the movie the first time round but I was too hungover to concentrate most of the time (on a saturday -.-). Plus I have a thing for cartoon/animation~~~

After the movie, my friend and I went to dinner at Movida Aqui. Movida (the original one) seems to be very popular... fully booked on a Tuesday, plus they now have 3 or 4 restaurants (The Masterchef effect??).

REVIEW: Movida Aqui is nice and cozy, located in a quieter part of the city. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant a lot because it's not one of those pretentious restaurants with itsy bitsy portions of food. I also don't feel like I have to dress prim and proper, sit upright and  not make any noise (Don't get me wrong... I do really enjoy fine dining because I love good food, but most of the time I feel so tense and out of place that I prefer more casual restaurants like this one). Service was okay, I think there was only one or two waiters overlooking the seating area, so can't blame them I suppose. The food was a bit slow, but the waiter did apologize for the delay. Food was pretty good and a pleasant dining experience overall.

3.5 stars out of 5.

THE FOOD
We ordered a jug of Sangria~~ Maybe it's not the best idea considering it's a tuesday and my friend has class at 8am the next day.

But this tastes amazing. I normally am not too fond of the slightly strong kick (you know, that punch at the end of the sip) of red wine. THIS.. tastes like juice. The girly side of me loves silent killer drinks like this one: just enough to make me get a little giggly but nothing that is going to burn a whole in my stomach and make me pull a face after drinking it.

They do have an extensive wine list but I am absolutely clueless when it comes to wine so no point trying. I highly recommend the sangria though. Loves it~~

2 weeks in Beijing: part 2 featuring local cuisines

It's my day off today and I wanted to go to the gym and chill for the day.. but I was woken by the worst stomach pain this morning T^T I have been having frequent gastric pain since a long time ago but i have never bothered to go see the doctor about it. I guess i have accepted it to be something normal for me. But today's pain was unbearable, so my brother and his girlfriend had to take me to the doctor.

It turned out to be a gastro-oesophageal reflux.. hopefully the medicine will help. The doctor also recommended that i do a gastroscopy.. *sigh* I feel like a cold is oncoming as well.. How depressing? I also have to start doing an assignment that is due next tuesday.. pfffffff

anyways, since i am at home and trying to get some rest, i thought i would upload part 2 of the 2 weeks in beijing photos, which are all the nice yummy food that i have had in the 2 weeks that i was there.

First, it's a taiwanese (i think)? tea house called 一茶一座.. which translates to one tea one seat.. we went back there quite a few times.. there is just something comforting and safe about a chain restaurant instead of the small local restaurants. afterall, i am a tourist.

Gastronomic Bliss featuring Fujifilm NC

I love food. However, i am not very blessed with the knife skills nor the determination to prepare gourmet meals. So most of the time when i am having meals by myself, i resort to takeaways and frozen food; which i must say, is nothing compared to the comfort of a proper home cooked meal.

A life-changing moment came, when my brother's girlfriend (who is referred to as Feli) invited me to dinner at her place. and she has been feeding me quite frequently ever since.....

This is a little documentation of our food journey together.
