MAC Archie's Girls. This collection has been out for so long in certain parts of the world that I think nearly everyone in Beauty-blogland would have read if not reviewed items from this collection.
I have not kept up with MAC collections for a long time because the sheer amount of collections that MAC keeps pumping out makes it absolutely impossible (and somewhat uninteresting). I think it was around this time last year that I reviewed a MAC collection (It was a review on the In Extra Dimension & Tres Cheek Collection- LINK).
The MAC Archie's Girls Collection is a colossal one with lipsticks, lipglasses, eyeliners, pigments, eyeshadow palette, mascara, blush, face powder and nail lacquers inspired by the two main female characters in Archie's Comic- Betty and Veronica. There's also accessories in the form of brush kit, coin purse, mirror, makeup bag and a tote.
Since I am not going to cover most of the products category, I decided not to include the full product list in this post. You can visit Temptalia.com LINK for the full list of products in this collection.
I purchased the Pearl Glide Intense Eyeliners in Black Swan (Betty), Lord it Up (Betty), Petrol Blue (Veronica) & Designer Purple (Veronica); the Powder Blushes in Cream Soda (Betty) & Prom Princess (Veronica); the Pearlmatte Face Powders in Flatter Me (Betty) & Veronica's Blush (Veronica) as well as a lipstick in Betty Bright (Betty) and a lipglass in Kiss & Don't Tell (Betty).
ARCHIE'S GIRLS PEARL GLIDE INTENSE EYELINER IN LORD IT UP (BETTY), BLACK SWAN (BETTY), PETROL BLUE (VERONICA) & DESIGNER PURPLE (VERONICA)
The packaging is white with red hearts all around it. Cute~~~
This is a traditional pencil form so it requires sharpening.
From left: Lord It Up (Betty)- chocolate brown with bronze tone and fine gold glitter, Black Swan (Betty)- intense creamy black with fine silver glitter, Petrol Blue (Veronica)-deep blackened navy with fine blue glitter & Designer Purple (Veronica)- bright violet with fine pink tone glitter.
RUB TEST
I let the eyeliners set for a few minutes then I rubbed the lines with my fingers. The entire line was pretty much intact and only a small amount of glitter moved.
WATER TEST
|
I then rubbed the lines with a tissue and only a bit of the product came off. Most of the line was intact.
P/s: My hand look very dark in this photo doesn't it? I accidentally set the exposure setting to be -1.0 when I was taking photos of the tissues >-< Since it wasn't swatches or anything that has to be colour accurate, I did not retake the photos. Hope you don't mind~
OIL TEST
I applied some cuticle oil onto the lines and then patted a tissue over it. As you can see, the oil did melt the product.
Once the eyeliner has been in contact with oil, it will pretty much rub off completely.
The Pearl Glide Intense Eyeliners have a very soft and creamy texture. They glide onto the skin effortlessly without the slightest hint of tugging. The pigmentation is also excellent, as a single pass on the eyeliner will yield a very opaque and solid line.
I did not expect these eyeliners to wear well at all on my oily lids but they stayed on surprisingly well on their own. These eyeliners stayed on perfectly for over 6 hours without any smudging. As time goes on, the eyeliners did smudge ever so slightly but for the most part, they stayed on nicely for approximately 8-9 hours.
One thing to note is that the Pearl Glide Intense eyeliners are not waterline safe because there's glitter particles in them. Also, the texture of these eyeliners are incredibly soft, so you need to be quite gentle when you are applying them or the tip of the eyeliner might break.
*All four shades of the Pearl Glide Intense Eyeliner released in the Archie's Girls Collection are permanent colours.
ARCHIE'S GIRLS POWDER BLUSH IN CREAM SODA (BETTY) & PROM PRINCESS (VERONICA)
Limited edition packaging.
From left: Cream Soda (Betty)- peachy apricot colour with a very subtle satin sheen & Prom Princess (Veronica)- deep magenta pink with a subtle sheen.
Both of the blushes in the Archie's Girls collection are pigmented and yields good colour payoff. In terms of texture, I think that the texture of Cream Soda is slightly smoother and not as dry as Prom Princess, but both of the blushes applies and blends into the skin nicely. Both of these blushes are satin finishes, although the sheen is very subtle on the skin. On my skin, these blushes can last around 7-8 hours with minimal fading.
ARCHIE'S GIRLS PEARLMATTE FACE POWDER IN FLATTER ME (BETTY) & VERONICA'S BLUSH (VERONICA)
From left: Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face Powder (Betty) & Veronica's Blush (Veronica).
FLATTER ME PEARLMATTE FACE POWDER (BETTY)
From left: (1st swatch) heart portion- medium coral tone pink with a peach tone sheen, (2nd swatch) base colour- peach with a frosty sheen, (3rd swatch) mixture of both the colors- soft coral tone pink with a slight sheen & (4th swatch) blended out swatch of both the colours mixed together.
MAC's official description of the Pearlmatte Face Powders suggest that they can be used as highlighter/ blush/ eyeshadow (source). Since both the heart and main portion of the Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face Powder have good colour payoff, it will be too pigmented to be used as a highlighter on my light skin tone. Both colours of the Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face Powder works nicely as a blush or eyeshadow, although the heart portion of the powder will be difficult to be picked up with a face brush since it is very small.
The texture of the Pearlmatte Face Powder is very smooth, finely milled and it applies and blends very nicely on the skin. I find the slight sheen to be very flattering on the skin as it gives a very natural healthy glow to the skin. The wear time of this powder is also quite good as it managed to stay on my skin for up to 8 hours.
VERONICA'S BLUSH PEARLMATTE FACE POWDER (VERONICA)
From left: (1st swatch) heart portion- sheer fuchsia pink, (2nd swatch) base colour- frosty pinkish white, (3rd swatch) mixture of both protions- frosty light pink & (4th swatch) mixture of both colours blended.
MAC's official description of the Pearlmatte Face Powders suggest that they can be used as highlighter/ blush/ eyeshadow (source). I think that the Veronica's Blush Pearlmatte Face Powder is best suited to be used as a highlighter (at least on my skin tone) as it is a very light frosty pink shade that simple will not work as a blush on me. Even as an eyeshadow, the pale frosty colour can easily make my eyes look puffy if applied all over, so it will also perform better as a highlighting eyeshadow shade on me.
I am not as impressed with the Veronica's Blush Pearlmatte Face Powder in comparison with the Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face Powder. The heart portion of this powder is very stiff and it has very low colour payoff. If this portion is a bit more pigmented, I think that it will impart more pink into the powder so that it can be used as a blush when both the colours are mixed together on lighter skin tones. The base color portion has a much smoother texture and pigmentation than the heart portion. This powder can last up to 6 hours on my skin, depending on how oily my skin gets throughout the day.
BETTY BRIGHT LIPSTICK AND KISS & DON'T TELL LIPGLASS (BETTY)
Betty Bright Lipstick
Kiss & Don't Tell Lipglass
From left: Betty Bright Lipstick (Betty)- satin finish coral & Kiss & Don't Tell Lipglass (Betty)- creamy pink tone coral.
The Betty Bright Lipstick is a gorgeous coral colour that is very creamy and pigmented. The wear time of this lipsticks is also quite good, being able to last up to 4 hours on me. This formula is not a moisturizing one, so my lips tend to get a little bit dehydrated (not dry in any means though) after a couple of hours.
The Kiss & Don't Tell Lipglass is a pinky coral color that is pigmented but not completely opaque. If I wear it on its own, I can definitely see some of my natural lip color peeking through. MAC Lipglasses have a very tacky finish but I don't find it to be too uncomfortable. The stickier nature of the lipglass also means that it can last a bit longer on the lips. The Kiss & Don't Tell Lipglass can last up to 3 hours on me.
Last but not least, the SA at my local MAC store gave me this box of Archie's Girls mints. Heart shape mints??? I can't bear to eat them.
Betty Inspired Wannabe Girl Next Door Look
For this look, I used the Black Swan Pearl Glide Eyeliner to line my upper lashline & the Lord It Up Pearl Glide Intense Eyeliner to line the outer third of my lower lashline.
On my cheeks, I applied the Cream Soda Powder Blush on the apples of my cheeks. Then I layered the Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face powder over it and brushed it up towards my ears.
On my lips, I wore the Betty Bright Lipstick with the Kiss & Don't Tell Gloss over it.
Veronica Inspired "not-girl-next-door" Look
In this look, I used the Petrol Blue Pearl Glide Intense Eyeliner to line the inner 2/3 of my upper lashline. I then used the Black Swan Pearl Glide Intense Eyeliner to line the outer 1/3 of my upper lashline, extending it into a cat eye flick. I also used the Designer Purple Pearl Glide Intense Eyeliner to line the outer 1/3 of my lower lashline.
On my cheeks, I was wearing the Prom Princess Powder Blush and I used the Veronica's Blush Pearlmatte Face Powder on a highlighter on my forehead, down the bridge of my nose, on top of my cheekbones and on my chin.
