Products I've Used Up | April 2013

Hi everyone. This blog post will be the first in a "Products I've Used Up" series that I am starting on the blog. Since I have quite a hefty collection of beauty products, I always have a huge sense of accomplishment whenever I use something up.

I thought it will be an interesting read if I showcase some products that I have used up along with some mini reviews as well as mentioning whether or not I will repurchase them.

Some of the products have a tiny bit left when I took the photos but all of them are gone by the time I am typing this post. The reason for that is that I want to show you the texture or look of the product. Also, it's very very difficult for me to keep a product that is completely empty because I always feel a strong urge to throw something out once I've used them up (It's not OCD is it??).

Without further ado, let's have a look at the products that I have used up in the past month or so.

PRODUCTS 1~5
From left: Shu Uemura Skin Purifier Porefinist Gentle Foaming Cleansing Water, Michael Todd Organic Lemon AHA+ DMAE Toner, Michael Todd Moisture Lite Non-oily Hydrating Lotion, Michael Todd Intensive Organic Cream Eye Treatment & Maybelline Baby Lips in Smoothing Cherry.

SHU UEMURA SKIN PURIFIER POREFINIST GENTLE FOAMING CLEANSING WATER
This product has a pump dispenser.
The foam has a light and airy texture.
The Shu Uemura Skin Purifer Porefinist Gentle Foaming Cleansing Water is something that I have been using for years and although I sometimes wander off to try cleansers from other brands, I always come back to this.

According to the Shu Uemura website, with ingredients such as waterlily extract, salicylic acid, dragons beard extract and deepsea water, this cleanser can effectively remove all impurities from the skin for a complete pore cleansing while refining skin texture. This eco friendly cleanser can help to smoothen skin surface and purify the skin as well as tighten pores (source).

Since I have very oily skin and I tend to wear makeup quite often, my skin is often congested and sebum/dirt can build up  quite easily.

I use one and a half pump of this cleanser to double cleanse my face after using a wipe/ makeup remover/ Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil to remove my makeup. I like how clean my skin feels after using this and when I am using this product, I don't tend to get as many blackheads and little bumps on my skin. Although this is a deep cleansing product, it doesn't make my skin feel tight or overly stripped. I also like the subtle floral scent in it.

I highly recommend this cleanser for people with oily skin (not sure how well it will work on other skin types)and I have already repurchased this. I am trying to use up my Kielh's Oil Free Cleanser but once I am done with that, I am going back to this one.

MICHAEL TODD ORGANIC LEMON AHA+ DMAE TONER
This toner contains AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) & DMAE which can firm, lift and tighten the skin while reducing the looks of fine lines and discolorations for more vibrant, even and radiant looking skin. This toner also contains Black Willow Tree extract which can promote skin healing and tea tree oil which can help fight blemishes due to its antiseptic properties (source).

I really like the sweet lemony scent of this toner. If you are someone who likes citrus scents, I am sure you will love the smell of this product. Also, this toner is 96% organic, which is good as it allows my skin to take a break from all the non-organic product that I subject it to.

This toner is very light and it absorbs very quickly into the skin without leaving any residue behind. The scent and texture of this toner is also very refreshing. I didn't notice too much reduction in my pore size with the use of this toner but my skin did get a little bit brighter. This toner is also a great one to freshen up my skin in the middle of the day. When I was using this toner, I did not get as many pimples (even around the time of the month). I am not using this and the Shu Uemura Foaming Cleansing Water at the moment and I am experiencing quite an unusually bad case of hormomal breakout on my chin >-<

I might not repurchase this one in a while since I have quite a few toners that I am trying to get through.

MICHAEL TODD MOISTURE LITE NON-OILY HYDRATING LOTION
This moisturizer is formulated for people with normal to oily/combination skin as it is non-greasy, does not clog pores, moisturizes and control shine (source).

First of all, I have a huge problem with the packaging. As I continue to use this moisturizer, the pump stopped working. I had to resort to opening the bottle and pouring the product out, which is extremely annoying and rather messy.

The moisturizer is also so-so in my opinion. Although it is supposed to be light and non-greasy, I feel like it sits on the skin quite a bit before being fully absorbed. Since my skin is very oily and I live in a tropical country, my skin just feel slightly sticky and uncomfortable after I put this on. This moisturizer also did not control shine on my skin like it claims to do as my skin got oily after around 2 hours after putting this on.

I think that people with skin that is less oily than mine might like this moisturizer but I didn't like this product for my skin.

MICHAEL TODD INTENSIVE ORGANIC CREAM EYE TREATMENT
I have never seen an eye cream with a pump like this one.
The Michael Todd Intensive Organic Cream Eye Treatment claims to help with fine lines and wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness and bags as well providing hydration for the skin around the eyes (source).

I adore this eye cream but I only like to use this at night as I find that this eye cream takes some time before sinking in to the skin completely. The texture is not too heavy or rich as I did not have a problem with this causing milia in my undereye area. My eyes are quite sensitive but this product did not sting my eyes or make my eyes water.

As I continued to use the Michael Todd Intensive Organic Cream Eye Treatment, the fine lines under my eyes were noticeably reduced. Also, the skin around my undereye also looked firmer, smoother and more supple.

I am in love with this eye treatment and I highly recommend this product. I already started using my second tube of this eye treatment and I am already thinking of getting a backup (since I can't see how much product is left and I don't want to be caught without this. That is how much I love this!!).

MAYBELLINE BABY LIPS IN SMOOTHING CHERRY
The Maybelline Baby Lips is a very nice lip balm in my opinion. It claims to provide 8 hours moisture, rejuvenate lips and reduce fine lines in a week but I am not sure if it really does that. However, I do find that it moisturise my lips well enough (for a good few hours) and it does not make my lips peel. SPF 20 is a big plus and I like using this lip balm during the day underneath other lip products because the light texture does not make lip products that I put on it slide/move.

This lip balm is also at a very affordable price point and it has a nice sweet scent. The Maybelline Baby Lips is not the best lip balm on earth but it is a very good basic lip balm that I always have in my bag and on my bedside table. I already repurchased this in the mango scent.

PRODUCTS 6~10
From left: Ettusais Lip Essence, L'Occitane Fleurs de Cerisier Hand Cream, L'Occitane Silky Body Gel in Rose Des Champs, Diorskin Sculpt Lifting and Smoothing Concealer & Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Jelly Water Base.
ETTUSAIS LIP ESSENCE
The Ettusais Lip Essence is a hyper gloss oil that has SPF18 PA++ and it is fragrance free.

This lip essence has a slightly stickier (almost lip gloss-like) formula. I like to use this as a lip treatment at night by applying it in a thick layer and then putting a piece of cling film over it for about 5 minutes. I sometimes do this step before makeup but I always make sure to blot my lips before applying lip colour as this lip essence does not wear well under coloured lip products due to its slip/texture.

This product is also an excellent SOS product because no matter how dry/chapped/dehydrated my lips are, my lips will be very soft and moisturised after using applying this lip essence.

I want to repurchase this lip essence but I can't get this product in Malaysia anymore T^T

L'OCCITANE HAND CREAM IN FLEURS DE CERISIER
Dear readers, meet my holy grail hand cream: the L'Occitane hand cream in Fleurs de Cerisier (or Cherry Blossom). I haven't tried all that many hand creams but that is because I didn't feel the need to try anything else ever since I discovered this many years ago.

The fast absorbing texture is what I love about this hand cream. Some hand creams tend to leave the skin greasy or sticky and I hate that feeling as I am always touching my phone/computer or I will be reading either a book or magazine. When I see my greasy fingerprints on things, it just annoys me to no end. This hand cream dries and sinks into the skin super quickly so I don't have to sit around for ages doing nothing while waiting for my hand cream to dry. In addition, although the texture is light, it is very moisturizing and it leaves my hand feeling very soft.

The Fleurs de Cerisier is my favourite scent from L'Occitane but all of the other scents are lovely too~~ I am currently using the Green Tea Moisturizing Hand Gel and that is amazing as well.

L'OCCITANE SILKY BODY GEL IN ROSE DES CHAMPS
You might notice by now that I am quite a brand loyal person. When I discover something I like from a brand, I like to try out other products they offer to see if the brand offers amazing products across the board. That is how I switched from using drugstore body lotions to L'Occitane.

As I have mentioned previously, I hate it when product leaves a greasy layer/residue on the skin. The L'Occitane Silky Body Gel is a very fluid formula that spreads very well and it doesn't take much effort to be rubbed into the skin. It also absorbs very quickly and is very moisturizing. This one is a rose scented one and it smells incredible. One time, my brother came into my room after I've applied this and he commented on how nice I smell (which is something that he has never said to me before).

I love L'Occitane's body lotions and I only wish that it is not as expensive as I use them up super quickly >-<

DIORSKIN SCULPT LIFTING AND SMOOTHING CONCEALER
Diorskin Sculpt Lifting and Smoothing Concealer in 002 Beige.
The Diorskin Sculpt Lifting and Smoothing concealer is one of my favorites to conceal my undereye dark circles and redness around my nose/chin. It has a light texture, medium coverage and it blends well into the skin without looking too cakey or heavy. It also last very well on my skin, as it will only fade a little bit after 7 hours.

I don't use this concealer to conceal blemishes as I find the texture to be too thin to accurately conceal blemishes. I personally prefer using a full coverage concealer on blemishes. I am currently using the Clinique Air Brush Concealer to replace this since it works well to conceal redness and dark circles and it is slightly more affordable than this Dior one.

BIORE UV AQUA RICH WATERY JELLY WATER BASE
The texture is so light and it blends into the skin effortlessly.
The texture is not sticky or heavy in the slightest sense.
The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Jelly Water Base has SPF30 PA+++ and it purports to be a moisturizer, primer and sunscreen all in one.

This sunscreen is my HOLY GRAIL sunscreen and I am so in love with it. The texture is incredibly light as it turns into watery texture once you rub it into the skin. It doesn't leave a white cast or a sticky residue on the skin. The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Jelly Water Base also doesn't have the typical SPF scent. Instead, this has a slight and subtle citrus scent.

This product feels like nothing on the skin and it works amazingly under foundation/base makeup. It is not highly moisturizing so people with dryer skin types might still need to apply a moisturizer underneath it. However, the light weight texture is something that I love on my oily skin.

I almost forgot to mention that this is a drugstore sunscreen and it is very affordable. Although it is a drugstore product, the quality is as good if not better than some high end sunscreens that I have tried. I repurchased this along with several other products in the Biore Aqua Rich range.

This concludes the first "Products I've Used Up" post on my blog. Tell me what you think about this post as well as if there are any products that you have used up lately in the comments (I would love to know ^0^).

  12. It's such a great feeling when you finish products up, as it means that you can go out and try out some new products :D The Shu Uemura Foaming Cleansing water looks so cool and sounds great! I am yet to find the perfect cleanser for my dry skin though. The Michael Todd eye cream looks so strange, I have never seen a dispenser like that before either! I have the Maybelline Baby Lips in Mango Pie and it smells amazing :) I agree with you that it doesn't moisturise for 8 hours but it is easy to use and reapply. I absolutley love L'Occitane's hand creams too! I have Crabtree & Evelyn ones which have the exact same formulation- I hate it when my hands are greasy from hand creams and I can't do anything without making things oily!

  16. I've heard so many good things about Michael Todd lately, I have to start paying attention to the brand. I don't think I've seen it around much in person.

  17. Excellent reviews! I've never tried Shu Uemura products. I have sensitive and dry skin so maybe I need to look at their other options.

  18. Their cleansing oil is one of my personal favorites!!! I have been using that since I was a teenager.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am not sure if Michael Todd is available in stores actually. Most of the products that I have tried from them are really good!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I reviewed the foaming cleansing water and not the primer :P Although the primer from Shu looks really similar.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh... That would make sense why I have not seen them then!

  22. Wow, you used a lot of products! It is an accomplishment when you see empty products. Every time I see mine, I get impressed... hehe~ I'm loving the Maybelline Baby Lips. The packaging is so different from here.

    I realized I haven't been following you. I'm following now. :)

  24. There is a huge feel good factor when you finish up a product isn't it? Until you have to spend money to replace them :P Thanks for following~~

  25. Ooooo the eye cream really caught my eye! I've never seen an eye cream like that too! It seriously beats dipping my finger in a pot and getting them stuck to the underside of my nails! I really hate that.

It's pretty logical to dispose of them ASAP. I used to keep them because I had an 'attachment' to them but they just became rubbish in the end. I now have a habit of chucking them out as soon as I finish them. =D

  28. I am glad that you liked the idea of this post^-^ That is a dilemma with makeup, not so much with skincare since I tend to stick with a routine for my skincare.
