FIRST POST OF 2013 | Shiseido Maquillage Aura Veil Collection Review | Holiday 2012

Hi everyone!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 新年快樂!! 새해 복 많이 받으세요!! 明けましておめでとうございます!! Selamat Tahun Baru!! Bonne année!! I wish you lots of luck, love, happiness, health and wealth in the coming year~~

My first post of 2013 will be my last holiday/ Christmas 2012 makeup review on the Shiseido Maquillage Aura Veil Collection.

I spotted this set as I was leaving a department store one day but I decided not to get it initially. However, I couldn't stop thinking about it because the compact is so gorgeous!!!! I went to another Shiseido counter on the 21st of December (which we all survived, yay!!) and luckily, it was still available.

The packaging is simple but sophisticated. The writings are in gold and the box is an eggshell colour even though it appears slightly grey due to the white balance setting (which I don't know how to fix).

The box is a very thick cardboard material that feels very luxe and solid.

The description on the back of the box, in Japanese.

The inside of the box is gold, which matches the packaging on the products. This set comes with an Aura Veil Fragrance, an Aura Veil Compact and true rouge lip palette.

AURA VEIL FRAGRANCE
The Aura Veil Fragrance has the same scent as the Aura Veil Face Powder. I am hopeless at describing scents but the official description says that this fragrance is a sweet and pure scent that has a charming, fruity and floral aroma that mingles with every individual's natural scent to create a personal fragrance.

This is a small 30ml bottle so I think it will be a great one to travel with. I really like the design of the bottle too, it reminds me of a gem stone.
This is the front view of the bottle (source).

When I smell this fragrance, I mainly detect the floral notes and not much of the fruity sweet scents. I personally really like the scent but with fragrance, there is no way of telling if you will like it unless you can take a sniff yourself.

TRUE ROUGE LIP PALETTE
This palette is about the size of a card. The palette is in the same gold colour as the compact the the lid of the perfume. One thing I don't quite like is that this palette is made of plastic that is very light and slightly flimsy.

The bottom of the palette is clear.

This palette comes with a mini lip brush. I like the flat design because I think it looks very cool but I am not a big fan of the brush itself. The bristles are soft but not very dense so it doesn't hold its shape well. When you have it against your lips, the bristles will splay out so it is quite difficult to get a precise shape with it.

The colors, from left: RD352 (dusty mauve tone rose), BE748 (peach) & PK364 (medium pink).

These lip colours are translucent (does impart colour on the lips but not in the creamy opaque way) and glossy on the lips. The texture is very light and you can't even feel it on your lips. I find it to be quite moisturising on the lips as well. I put this on in the morning and my lips still looked nice and supple in the afternoon. The lasting power is ok, it stayed on me for over 3 hours, which is really good for a product with this kind of texture.

AURA VEIL COMPACT: 7 COLOUR TRANSLUCENT FACE POWDER
The powder is in a gold colour and gem stone cut compact that fits in so well the the other 2 items.

The closure. You press the gold button to release the lid. This compact is little on the bulky side.

This is what it looks like when you open the compact.

The puff that it comes with is really nice. I prefer using a brush to swirl all the colours together but the puff is good for retouch (and it is very well made, dense & squishy).

There's 7-tone powder that is raised with the Maquillage word pressed into it. There's actually 8 different shades consisting 7 colours (white, beige, purple, green, pink, orange & cream yellow while the middle shade is a blend of the 7 different colors).

Unlike the Guerlain Meteorites Perle in Teint Rose that I reviewed HERE, the different colors in the compact actually translate onto the skin.
I swatched the colours from the top in a clockwise manner and the rightmost colour in the swatch is the centre shade.

The function of each colour in the compact according to the official description (source).

This compact is very versatile and multi-purpose as it can be used as a face powder, cheek colour, eye shadow and highlighter (source).

This is what the colour will look like as a blush with the pink and orange shades (bottom left colors).

As a highlight shade (a blend of the cream yellow, white, beige and middle shade).

Bare skin.

As a all over face powder with all the shades swirled together.

I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS POWDER!!! The texture is so fine, smooth and creamy to the touch. I also really like the versatility and options of this palette, I mean, how many compacts out there can actually be used as an eyeshadow, blush, highlighter and all over powder? The powder makes the skin look very nice, even and subtly glowy. A big bonus is that it controls oil very well too. I had this powder over Estee Lauder Double Wear on NYE and my skin did not get oily even after 5-6 hours (which is nothing short of a miracle on my super oily skin). This powder does not last too well as a blush though, I detected noticeable fading after five hours.

As I mentioned previously, this powder does have the same scent as the Aura Veil Fragrance but the scent is not too obvious after you apply the powder.

I really recommend this powder because I love the texture, the gorgeous effect it gives on the skin, the versatility and the packaging. I missed out on the Guerlain Wulong compact (T^T) but I am not as sad about it anymore as I am very happy with my Shiseido Maquillage Aura Veil Collection.

My NYE makeup look. I used the Aura Veil Face Powder all over the face and I used the bottom left shades as a blush.

  2. Wow these Shiseido products look amazing! Such luxurious packaging (although I agree with you about the lip palette, it didn't look too luxe). The colours of the lip palette were so pretty though, great swatches too! The powder looks gorgeous especially when all the colours are swirled together! I haven't tried any Shiseido products myself as they are just so expensive :(

  7. i love the box! hahaha i agree! the perfume bottle is cut like a gem stone. very nice. LOVE the lippy colors. they are so beautiful! very nice powder. i love the array of colors. it would be nice if you could apply it with a brush instead of puff. puffs can hold so much bacteria. excellent review!

  9. I love the compact! At first, I did think of the Meteorites compact, but I also like that with Shiseido's the individual colors can be used alone. The whole set is so lovely and sophisticated though!

  21. I got this from a Shiseido counter but I have seen it being sold in some online stores (the price is a little jacked up though). This powder is really nice indeed!! I have been using it almost everyday since I got it ^-^

  23. I usually use a big fluffy powder brush to apply this when I am at home. I use the puff to touch up when I am out sometimes. I wash my powder puffs after every use because I read somewhere that a powder puff can have more bacteria then a toilet bowl if you don't clean it properly >-<
