Hi everyone. Florals and pastels have to be some of my favourite things in spring. So.... I guess there's no surprise that Shu Uemura's Blossom Dream Collection is the first spring collection to be featured on the blog.
Out of the (rather big) collection, I purchased the Rainbow Feather S false eyelashes, 2 Unmask Palettes in pink and blue, 2 Glow On Blushes in P Soft Coral 332 & P Vivid Orange 551 and 2 Drawing Pencils in Pearly Gold & Pearly White.
RAINBOW FEATHER S FALSE EYELASHES
Although the false eyelashes collector/addict in me really wanted to add both of these lashes to my collection, what little self control that I have managed to restrain my choice to the Rainbow Feather S false eyelashes.
Flared spikey lashes with multicoloured feathers.
Shu Uemura's limited edition false eyelashes are always unique and beautiful. The Rainbow Feather S false eyelashes are actually quite wearable because when your eyes are opened, you can mainly see the black lash base underneath. The colourful feathers will only be visible when you blink/ when your eyes are closed.
(p/s: I placed these lashes on my eyes to see what it will look like but I did not put glue on it because I didn't want to ruin the feathers, so no photos of me wearing it)
UNMASK EYESHADOW PALETTE- PINK & BLUE
Plain white outer box.
The packaging of the palette is designed by a Japanese artist named Tsuyoshi Hirano (for more information on Tsuyoshi Hirano CLICK)
The bottom part of the palette is a pure white colour and the lid portion is of a cream color.
Top: Unmask Palette- Pink. Bottom: Unmask Palette- Blue.
UNMASK PALETTE- PINK
From left: UP 1(pastel baby pink), UP 2(peachy pink), UP 3(bronze tone brown), UP 4(charcoal brown) & UP 5(pale beige).
UP 4 is the only shade that is slightly stiff in the pan so it did not apply as smoothly as the other shades. UP 5 is a very light beige colour and it is very similar to the colour of my skin. On me, it is a very nice base/ blending color but I think that it will be a very nice matte highlight on darker skin tones.
I was extremely impressed with this palette. Apart from the marginally stiffer UP 4, all shades were extremely fine and smooth and applied like a dream on the lids. There was no need for a primer with this palette because the payoff and lasting power were excellent on its own. Without a primer, these shadows lasted for over 8 hours with no fading.
UNMASK PALETTE- BLUE
From left: UB 1(pale beige), UB 2(pastel yellow), UB 3(pale pastel baby blue), UB 4(turquoise) & UB 5(pastel purple).
UB 1 is a pale beige colour that is very similar if not the same as UP 5 in the Unmask Palette- Pink. This pale beige colour is included in all 3 palettes released in this collection.
The texture of the eyeshadows in the Unmask Palette- Blue is very smooth and fine. However, since all the colours except UB 4 are very light, I do find that you need to build up the colour a bit more for the shadows to show up true to pan on the skin. In comparison to the Unmask Palette- Pink, I think it's better to apply a primer if you want better colour payoff. These shadows last for 7-8 hours as well.
DRAWING PENCILS| PEARLY GOLD & PEARLY WHITE
*Shu Uemura Malaysia obviously made a mistake in the description of these pencils. How are these eyeshadow palettes?*
Only 2 of the Drawing Pencil are available in Malaysia and I purchased both of those in Pearly Gold and Pearly White.
Left line is a single pass and right light is 2 passes. From left: Pearly Gold (Metallic pale yellow gold) & Pearly White (Metallic white).
*Props to you if you spot the little bit of loose thread on my hand XD*
RUB TEST
I was pleasantly surprised at how well these liners survived the rub test. Very little product rubbed off, even the glitter particles seemed to have hung on.
WATER TEST
For the water test, I wet my hand and then patted it dry with a tissue. Again, nothing came off at all!!
I tried wiping my hand dry lightly with the tissue and the liner pretty much stayed on perfectly.
OIL TEST
I dabbed some cuticle oil onto the lines and I patted it dry with a tissue. The lines were intact but there was a little bit of smudging.
After being in contact with oil, the lines completely rubbed off with a tissue.
These are my first eyeliners from Shu Uemura and I am very impressed with the quality since Shu Uemura's eyeliners are not ones that are highly raved about in the beauty community (I think Shu Uemura's Drawing Pencils certainly deserve more recognition!!).
These liners are very smooth, creamy and pigmented, so the product glides on opaquely onto the skin without the need to exert much pressure. These liners are very blendable before they set but once these liners set, they stay very well on the skin (Shu Uemura's website says that the Drawing liners are waterproof and smudge proof <source>, and in my opinion, the claim is totally valid). The Pearly Gold and Pearly White liners last for around 8 hours on my lower lash line but the metallic sheen would have decreased slowly after several hours of wear.
GLOW ON BLUSHES| P SOFT CORAL 332 & P VIVID ORANGE 551
These Glow On blushes come in refill form so please note that you have to purchase the case separately (there is a choice of black or white, single or double I believe).
Left is a built up swatch and on the right is a blended swatch. From left: P Soft Coral 332 (mid-tone pinkish coral with a pearlescent sheen) & P Vivid Orange 551 (when blended, the colour is a orange-y apricot colour but the orange tone will come through more if you build up the colour. There's a subtle golden sheen as well)
Both of these blushes are finely milled and smooth with amazing pigmentation. These blushes blend very nicely and the slight sheen in both of the blushes give a very nice glow to the skin. These blushes did manage to stay on for 6-7 without too much fading on my oily skin.
I did not purchase any lip products from this collection because I already have similar colours in my collection. I have never tried Shu Uemura's Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte or Gloss Unlimited so I can't comment on those.
That being said, I have quite a few Rouge Unlimited lipsticks and I really like those. The Rouge Unlimited tend to have a very smooth formula and it glides on the lips very nicely. The texture is very light and comfortable to wear and the formula is nicely hydrating. The finish is glossy with good pigmentation. The lasting power is so so, about 3-4 hours. (Please note that these are my general comments and experience with the Rouge Unlimited formula and not the specific ones in the Blossom Dream Collection)
In this look, I tried to recreate the look in the campaign image in a wearable way.
I placed the shadows according to the campaign image, blended out the edges and went back in to re-intensify the colors. I applied some black liner on my upper inner lash line and I proceeded to apply some false lashes. I also applied the Vivid Orange Glow On Blush towards the back of my cheeks.
In these photos, I used to Unmask Palette- Pink to create a natural everyday look. I used UP 5 on the front half of my lids, then I mixed the UP 2 & UP 3 to create a pink-tone brown that I used to define my outer corners and socket line. I then dabbed some UP 2 onto my outer corners. I lined my eyes with a liquid liner on my upper lash line and I used UP 4 to line my bottom outer lashline. I used the Pearly White Drawing Pencil on the inner half of my lower lashline. I also have the P Soft Coral 332 blush on my cheeks.
